Hive Star Quilts

One of the quilting projects I haven't gotten around to sharing are a pair that were created for my cousin's daughters.  I had never gotten around to making one for her first daughter, so when the second arrived I figured I'd make one for each of them.

They were made from the Giant Star Block Quilt Pattern by Jeni at In Color Order.  Since the pattern is so big, I scaled them down to be kid sized.  The blocks came to 9" finished, and the quilts are 36" square. The fabrics are from the Flora & Fauna line by Patty Young.

Though I neglected to get pictures of the backs, they are both backed with different prints from the same color scheme, and the quilting thread matches the backing of each.  Mustard dandilions and mustard thread on quilt above, and lime green polka dots and lime thread on the quilt below.

I really love how these quilts turned out.  The simplicity of the design, and the idea of using a single block as an entire quilt was a nice change for me.  I'd like to do a full or queen sized version at some point.  Perhaps for a guest room in our future house.

Long Time, No Sew?

I know, it's been a while since I've written here.  Just over two years in fact!  Have I stopped sewing?  No, though I'm not quilting as much as I have in the past.  You might have guessed that my jewelry making hobby took off a while back, and a fair number of the posts made two years ago are charm bracelets.  In that time I left costuming, my Etsy shop Mistress Jennie's Jewelry became my full time job, and we moved to Nashville.  I've recently decided that I wanted to return to blogging about my crafting, but that I should split it between two blogs.  The Quilt List will return to being quilting focused, with a few miscellaneous sewing projects thrown in to keep it lively.  Look for posts about quilting projects done over the last year or so over the next few weeks.

Quilt As You Go Weekend Bag... post coming soon!
Meanwhile all other crafting will move to Mistress Jennie's.  This will include the jewelry, bookmarks, mobiles, sun catchers, wine charms, tea infusers, dream catchers, altered art, and crochet projects that have been keeping me busy.

Over the next few weeks I have four baby quilts to make; 3 girl and 1 boy quilt. Since the first of the four beautiful babies arrived just yesterday, I better get stitching.  With so many to get done so soon, I'm planning on doing some simple strip quilts, and have already picked up the fabrics.

I'm happy with the fabrics for the girl quilts, but I'm a little undecided on the boy quilt.  It started with the adorable foxes in menswear.  The glasses and bow tie prints are both coordinate fabrics, but I'm unsure if I want to pair it with black and red solids, or black and tan, perhaps with a red binding.
