Hive Star Quilts

One of the quilting projects I haven't gotten around to sharing are a pair that were created for my cousin's daughters.  I had never gotten around to making one for her first daughter, so when the second arrived I figured I'd make one for each of them.

They were made from the Giant Star Block Quilt Pattern by Jeni at In Color Order.  Since the pattern is so big, I scaled them down to be kid sized.  The blocks came to 9" finished, and the quilts are 36" square. The fabrics are from the Flora & Fauna line by Patty Young.

Though I neglected to get pictures of the backs, they are both backed with different prints from the same color scheme, and the quilting thread matches the backing of each.  Mustard dandilions and mustard thread on quilt above, and lime green polka dots and lime thread on the quilt below.

I really love how these quilts turned out.  The simplicity of the design, and the idea of using a single block as an entire quilt was a nice change for me.  I'd like to do a full or queen sized version at some point.  Perhaps for a guest room in our future house.

Long Time, No Sew?

I know, it's been a while since I've written here.  Just over two years in fact!  Have I stopped sewing?  No, though I'm not quilting as much as I have in the past.  You might have guessed that my jewelry making hobby took off a while back, and a fair number of the posts made two years ago are charm bracelets.  In that time I left costuming, my Etsy shop Mistress Jennie's Jewelry became my full time job, and we moved to Nashville.  I've recently decided that I wanted to return to blogging about my crafting, but that I should split it between two blogs.  The Quilt List will return to being quilting focused, with a few miscellaneous sewing projects thrown in to keep it lively.  Look for posts about quilting projects done over the last year or so over the next few weeks.

Quilt As You Go Weekend Bag... post coming soon!
Meanwhile all other crafting will move to Mistress Jennie's.  This will include the jewelry, bookmarks, mobiles, sun catchers, wine charms, tea infusers, dream catchers, altered art, and crochet projects that have been keeping me busy.

Over the next few weeks I have four baby quilts to make; 3 girl and 1 boy quilt. Since the first of the four beautiful babies arrived just yesterday, I better get stitching.  With so many to get done so soon, I'm planning on doing some simple strip quilts, and have already picked up the fabrics.

Fabrics for the Elephant Romp baby girl quilt
I'm happy with the fabrics for the girl quilts, but I'm a little undecided on the boy quilt.  It started with the adorable foxes in menswear.  The glasses and bow tie prints are both coordinate fabrics, but I'm unsure if I want to pair it with black and red solids, or black and tan, perhaps with a red binding.

Nautical Charm Bracelet (Custom Order)

Another charm bracelet to share with you today!  This one is themed around the ocean, and living off the ocean.  It features 18 nautical charms, including a treasure map, small ships wheel, fish hook, compass rose, row boat, captain at the wheel, seahorse, large anchor, sailing ship, life preserver, mermaid, large wheel, spyglass, anchor with rope, lighthouse, pirate ship, octopus, and an anchor disk. The beads are a mix of glass, Czech glass, jade, banded agate, river shell, and freshwater pearl disks, in shades of blue, sky, cyan, teal, turquoise, green, clear, and white.

A Few of Her Favorite Things Charm Bracelet (Custom Order)

I've been making ever more charm bracelets in preparation for the holiday season.  This one is a bit different for me, in that it doesn't have a single theme.  It was made for a young woman who requested it include "all of her favorite things".  There are 16 mixed gold and silver charms, including two golden owls, two silver hearts, silver fangs, bottles of blue & white glitter, a silver wolf, a golden Ravenclaw eagle, a silver angel wing, Police Box, Eiffel Tower, dragon, mustache, golden book, and silver letter L. The beads are a mix of glass, Czech glass, turquoise, quartz, and crystal, in shades of night blue, violet, royal purple, light yellow, amber, and soft pink.  She wanted the colors to be reminiscent of the boat & lanterns scene from Tangled.

Tea Time & Green Tea Bracelets

Well, summer is officially over for me.  Not that it was all that long really.  I ended up getting about 2.5 weeks off of work, and tried to get as much crafting done in there as possible.  Last Thursday (my last official day off), I managed to complete 16 "in progress" bracelets that had been cluttering my desk for weeks.  Friday saw the completion of two more, bringing my 2 day total up to 18.  Some were already "charmed", but not beaded, some were beaded, but were missing charms, and some were just an idea in the back of my head that I had pulled out some supplies for.

Two of my favorites are the tea bracelets.  A Tea Time Bracelet, inspired by traditional black tea and lemon, and a Green Tea Bracelet, for a more tranquil and zen-inspired alternative. The Tea Time Bracelet includes an mix of glass, shell and crystal beads in shades of mahogany, amber, and lemon yellow.  The charms include a sugar packet, teaspoon, teacups, a fancy cake, teabags, kettle, clock, teapots, plate of toast, butter knife, and lemon slice.

The Green Tea Bracelet features a mix of glass and stone beads in shades of green, white and clear. (I really love the Aventurine beads worked in!) The charms include a sugar packet, leaves, teabags, flowers, teacups, teapot, green teabag, teaspoon, butter knife, and lemon slice.
